Norma Scantlin, President

I was born in National City, graduated from El Capitan High School and then attended Grossmont College and SDSU.

I started working in real estate in 1988. One of my strengths is being able to give knowledge and history to clients regarding Santee and other areas. I feel honored to serve the association, and share the knowledge that I gain from doing so with others.

My husband Jerry and I love to vacation in Kauai, Hawaii (very relaxing). We have four children (three sons and a daughter), and now four granddaughters. My children, along with my husband, my parents, and my ethical and religious beliefs, are the biggest influences in my life.

Aaron Kerper, President-Elect

I’m a third-generation real estate professional and native San Diegan. After living for several years in Orange County, I returned to San Diego in 1985 to attend SDSU, graduating in 1989. I have made San Diego my permanent home ever since. I’ve been married for 17 years and have 2 kids (and one boxer). I am a musician, and have enjoyed playing live shows and recording for over 20 years. In addition to music, I love traveling, fishing, and family adventures of every type.

Though I started in real estate in 1974, holding open houses with my father, my current real estate journey began in 1995 as an investor. In 2000, I joined Prudential California Realty and now serve clients throughout San Diego County. I’m an adjunct instructor at Southwestern College (Real Estate and Business) and Cuyamaca College (Real Estate). I’ve also been an instructor/lecturer for Prudential’s Journey to Success Program.

I have served and continue to serve the real estate community in several capacities, including Vice Chairman of Professional Standards (ESDCAR), Governmental Affairs Committee (ESDCAR), and SANDICOR’S Grievance Committee.

Real estate has been an integral part of my family for over 40 years, and allows me the opportunity to assist my clients and students in the fulfillment of their goals and dreams. I appreciate the trust and confidence of the association and its members.

Peg Keeley, Vice President

I'm originally from Chicago. After graduating from Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, I taught school in Colorado. I moved to California in 1986 to be closer to my sister. California is a beautiful state and I am thankful to live here. Colorado, however, holds a special magic for me – the big sky, the majestic mountains, the air. It continues to fill me with a sense of tranquility whenever I am there.

My husband Tom Keeley and I have been married since 1990, and we each brought five children to our marriage. We have 20 grandchildren now, and hope to spend more time with each of them. It can be a full time job just keeping up with their sports and other activities.

Real estate has been a dream of mine ever since high school. I decided to go for the dream in 1993. I look to the top producers in our community for inspiration, and like reading about their journeys. I admire people like Chris Heller, David Norberg, Maxine Gellens, and others who worked hard and didn’t give up when the path got tough.

What appeals to me most about this business is getting people into their own homes. People who own their own homes walk taller, work harder, and have more confidence in themselves and their neighbors.

Sten Bjernefalt, Secretary/Treasurer

Sten became a REALTOR® in 1976, and has been an ESDCAR member continuously since 1989. He and his wife, Pat, have been top producing agents in East County and still finds time to serve effectively on our Board of Directors.

Has held membership on the Orientation, Membership, Strategic Planning, and Finance Committees, and chaired the ESDCAR Website Task Force.

Sten was recognized as REALTOR® of the year in 2002. He has a successful background in business, management, and education, with specializations in technology, linguistics, diplomacy, recruiting, business-building and leadership.

Sten’s desire is to increase membership, to build member participation and to find ways to improve and enhance ESDCAR's service to its members.
