2010 Directors
Mike Anderson, Director
I'm an East County native, graduating from El Capitan and then attending SDSU. I'm married with three kids. I love to travel, especially to Europe, and occasionally I get to spend some time at our cabin in Big Bear. I play softball and golf, and I'm a huge Padres fan.
I got my real estate license in 1983 and began working as an appraiser, switching to sales when I joined Barker Realty in 1994. Now I focus mostly on residential sales and financing in the East County, especially SFRs and condos, or anywhere in the county that my return or referred clients choose.
What I love about my career is the fact that I can choose my own hours and direction, work with people and focus on personal service, and yet still make good money. I also love the challenge each sale represents, and the winning goal of an escrow closing.
Aside from ESDCAR, I'm a member of the Old Aztec Rugby Club, and director and former president of the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce. I'm also an active member of the East San Diego County Chamber of Commerce and the German American Society.

Joe Blanchard, Director
I'm from Scranton, Pennsylvania originally, and ended up in San Diego in 1960 through the Navy. I love San Diego, and definitely do not miss the cold winters in Scranton.
I started in real estate in 1964, when I got my license. One of my specialties is 1031 exchanges. To this day, I derive much enjoyment from my clients, who continue to call on me for their and their children's real estate needs.
The thing that influenced me most is the navy, and the invaluable political science training that I received and taught while in the service. Perhaps it's why I love the color blue! I enjoy lake fishing, tunes from the 40s and 60s, a little light opera, and of course my three children and three grandchildren.
One of the things I like most about volunteering with the association is seeing the results of not only my efforts over the years, but many of my colleagues who volunteered with me on many committees throughout the years.

Connie Butt, Director
I worked as a legal secretary in Hollywood at CBS, then went to work at my husband's architectural firm in Hawaii for 14 years before coming to San Diego. While my experiences were wonderful, I am the happiest where I'm at today.
I got my license in real estate in 1971, and started in real estate in 1972 with Foster Realty. The industry is certainly not monotonous, which is why I find it so stimulating to practice real estate to this day. My clients and 1031 tax deferred exchanges are my specialty.
Choral singing is my hobby, and I like to play chess and cards. I love to travel all over the world. I'm also partial to Thanksgiving dinner, classical music, opera, country western, big band and ballads, and the philosophies of Dr. Wayne Dyer.

Richard De Nure, Director
We moved to California in 1948, when I was very young, and settled in Lakeside. I graduated from El Cajon High School and then attended SDSU and Cal Western before getting my doctorate from USC.
I first started working in real estate in 1981, when my wife Claudia and I both became licensed agents and brokers. We went to work at Coldwell Banker, and in 1983 we teamed up with Roger and Carol Holtsclaw at Century 21 Dimensions. In 1986, we bought East County Realty.
The challenge of real estate that most appeals to me is determining creative solutions to get people into property responsibly, and my specialty is exchanging real estate. Outside of real estate, I'm also president of the La Mesa Kiwanis, and a former toastmaster. I'm a dedicated Christian, the father of two great children, and grandpa to five super kids.

Laura Houle, Director
I'm a graduate of Grossmont High and USD (interim studies in Fulton, MO and Cherubini Conservatory in Florence, Italy). After teaching in La Mesa for seven years, I became a real estate licensee in 1970, a broker in 1974, and established myself as a mortgage broker in 1987.
Besides being ESDCAR president in 1996 and 1998, I also received the REALTOR® of the Year award in 1997 and I have chaired nearly all of the committees. I also served as a CAR Regional VP in 2001 and on the CAR Nominating Committee in 2002.
I have gained great satisfaction from my service to the association. I care deeply about the association and am happy that we have risen successfully to the challenges that have come before us. My attention and focus has been on its continued success, increasing the number of volunteers for the various committees, and giving more benefits back to the membership, whenever possible.

Jerry L. Scantlin, Director
I was born in Los Angeles, and then lived in Riverside. I moved to San Diego in 1964 when I got married.
I began working in real estate in 1978, as a salesperson. By 1986 I was a broker, and in 1989 I opened my own office. I specialize in property management.
One of the things I most enjoy about real estate is the flexibility. It allows me to pursue other interests – such as being a Boy Scout leader.

Jeff Campbell, Director at Large
I'm from San Jose, and moved to San Diego in 1971 for a job selling homeowner's insurance. Later that same year, I became involved in real estate.
I love the earning power of the business. I also love giving to clients, friends, family, and community. I'm a work-close-to-home kind of guy, so it's mostly Alpine for me in terms of specialization.
In my free time, I'm an AYSO coach and referee. I have two kids, Ford and Rebecca, and I enjoy reading with my family. I also like writing and singing – when no one else is around. I'm a newspaper and caffeine junkie, love fried chicken and classic rock, and driving fast. I also enjoy public speaking. My favorite vacation spot is the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
